We all know that the postpartum period after birth is an exciting yet vulnerable time for families. Postpartum doulas help parents transition to life with a newborn, and, in turn, they assist the new little ones in transitioning to life outside of the womb. Doulas facilitate this transition in many layered and interesting ways tailored to each family—continually making this work fascinating!
How do we do this? We come alongside the whole family to help them navigate all the challenges that postpartum life presents—such as physical recovery (if they have given birth), emotional recovery, adjusting to having a newborn (or multiple newborns!) in the home, interpreting all those sweet newborn behaviors, offering referrals to community resources, and of course, educating our clients on their chosen sleeping and feeding methods for their baby(ies), and so much more! (It’s a 27-hour+ course, after all!)
We also dive deep into what it looks like to do this work. We analyze the needs of a typical (and sometimes not-so-typical) postpartum period and explore all the ways a postpartum doula can make a difference for our clients through our practical, nurturing, educational, and emotional care skills.
As your instructor, throughout the workshop, one of many ways I prepare you for this career is by creating opportunities for you to actually "see" what it looks like to offer excellent postpartum doula care. One of the unique aspects of our training is the chance to observe role-play scenarios. (No worries, I never call on students to participate in role-plays; it's volunteer only!) A typical role-play could involve teaching a parent to feed their baby(ies), tending to a parent who is experiencing emotional challenges, or practicing how to introduce ourselves to other birth community providers as professional postpartum doulas.
Because families are created in all kinds of unique and wonderful ways, weaved throughout the workshop are my modeling, group discussions, student reflections, and more, all aimed at understanding the importance of non-judgmental nurturing and respectful support for all families and their situations.

- Certificate of Completion (for those continuing on to certify as a postpartum doula, you can use this certificate for that or maybe you will use it for CEUs!)

- A private 45-minute life coaching session where we can look at how to incorporate working as a doula into your current life and, if needed or are already working as a doula, explore together any challenges that you may feel you need to navigate on your journey to offering excellent postpartum doula care*
